Huntingdon is a small town in Quebec’s Montérégie region, located in the Haut-Saint-Laurent Regional County Municipality. The town is 75 kilometres southwest of Montreal and 15 kilometres from the border with New York State.
Huntington’s first residents were mostly immigrants from Scotland, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, as well as former American soldiers who had been granted land by King George III. Many of these ex-soldiers sold their property to the Ellices without ever having lived there.
Huntingdon is the only county in the St. Lawrence Valley that is fully divided into cantons, with a total of seven. The cantons of Hemmingford, Havelock, Franklin, Hinchinbrooke, Elgin, Godmanchester, and Dundee make up the area from east to west. Huntingdon, the capital, is on the border of Hinchinbrooke and Godmanchester.
Huntingdon is a one-of-a-kind industrial city in the Haut-Saint-Laurent RCM that contributes to the economic development of the entire 23,000-person region. Huntingdon is also 20 kilometres southeast of Valleyfield, a town with a population of about 65,000 people. Approximately 64% of the population of Huntingdon is bilingual (English/French).
The city of Huntingdon is growing, and numerous residential construction projects will be completed in the coming years. The municipality is 20 minutes from Highway 30 and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, and is the region’s economic engine.
In addition to the continuing education centre, vocational training centre, two primary schools (francophone and anglophone), and a high school, Huntingdon has 150 goods and services companies to choose from.
A childcare centre, family-home day care, and a Family Resource Centre are available to families. The city also offers an arena, summer and winter soccer clubs, a pool, and a public library. Give yourself the feel of a big city while remaining in a serene and natural environment. Huntingdon will accommodate your needs, whether you are pre-retired, travelling, and free, or a young couple looking for a place to work and develop your life.
