Val-des-Sources, originally Asbestos, is a hamlet on the Nicolet River in the Estrie area of southern Quebec, Canada. The town is home to the Les Sources Regional County Municipality, which was previously known as the Asbestos Regional County Municipality. The town has a total size of 29.67 square kilometers, which includes property obtained as a result of the December 8, 1999 merger of the City of Asbestos and the Municipality of Trois-Lacs.
The town had a population of 7,096 people. Drummondville, Sherbrooke, and Victoriaville form a square around it, with the Nicolet River to the north. The Jeffrey Mine, which used to be the world’s largest asbestos mine and has long been the town’s largest employer, as well as the now-defunct Magnola magnesium refinery, are also located here.
